So long, Hilly...

Hilly Kristal - the guy who founded CBGB's, died Tuesday.
Patti Smith summed it all up best:
"There was no real venue in 1973 for people like us; we didn't fit into the cabarets or the folk clubs. Hilly wanted the people that nobody else wanted. He wanted us."

All the gold in the earth...

All the gold in the earth
To me, it ain’t worth...
Half the treasure that I’ve found in you...

Jan Smith - Half the Treasure

Jan's new CD - 29 Dances - is just incredible.

If She Wants Me

If She Wants Me

If I could do just one near perfect thing I'd be happy
They'd write it on my grave, or when they scattered my ashes
On second thoughts I'd rather hang around and
Be there with my best friend
If she wants me

Love and Happiness

Here's a wishing well;
Here's a penny for...
Any thought it is -
That makes you smile.

Every diamond dream;
Everything that brings...
Love and happiness
To your life.

Here's a rabbit's food;
Take it when you go...
So you'll always know
You're safe from harm.

Wear your ruby shoes;
When you're far away...
So you'll always stay
Home in your heart.

You will always have a lucky star -
That shines because of what you are.
Even in the deepest dark...
Because your aim is true.

And if I could only have one wish;
Darling, then it would be this -
Love and happiness for you...

Lyrics from one of my favorite Emmylou Harris songs...

She wrote "Love and Happiness" for an album she recorded with Mark Knopfler called "All the Roadrunning". Reportedly, it took the two artists over seven years to complete the project - the two would meet for just a few hours at a time, recording whenever and wherever they could, creating nothing less than a masterpiece in the process.

I couldn't begin to tell you how glad I am that they made this happen - almost every track on "Roadrunning" brings me a smile - and that is a rare thing indeed.

Regina Spektor. She's beautiful, she plays piano, writes her own music, and she sings like a goddess.

I don't even know where to begin...

Apparently he goes by the name "Super Bad Brad" - according to Wikipedia his real name is Brad Prowly. All I know is that Marvin Gaye must have spun in his grave - this guy may be ugly, but day-um can he ever sing...

World Without Tears

If we lived in a world without tears -
How would misery know
Which back door to walk through?
How would trouble know
Which mind to live inside of?
How would sorrow find a home?

- Lucinda Williams

Beautiful, but just overwhelmingly heartbreaking... what do you say when someone asks you these kind of questions?

Annie Lennox - Dark Road

It's a dark road
and a dark way
that leads to my house...
